Things are changing around Fort Riley
If you are visiting this site, you no doubt already know that Fort Riley is undergoing a major increase in troop strength. And you might even be planning your move to this scenic portion of the Kansas Flint Hills!
In its 2005 BRAC recommendations, the U.S. Department of Defense recommended a variety of changes at this Flint Hills post that would include the relocation of personnel from Europe, Korea and CONUS locations.
Obviously, this type of expansion has created both challenges and opportunities for Fort Riley and for the counties and communities which surround it.
The challenges come in such areas as finding adequate housing for the many new residents the area will gain, as well as providing the necessary infrastructure to accommodate new and expanding business operations.
The opportunities are tied to the economic growth the increased population represents to the region. From the construction projects that will make the population growth achievable to the expanded services new residents will need, the Fort Riley region will witness an unprecedented level of economic prosperity.
Fort Riley and the seven surrounding counties and twenty-two local communities have forged a Community Partnership and signed Army Community Covenants to denote their commitment to addressing these issues. Information about the monthly Community Partnership Conference meetings can be found here.
