Geary County

Geary County originally was organized in 1855 as Davis County – named after Jefferson Davis, the U.S. Senator and Secretary of War who became President of the Southern Confederacy.  The Legislature changed the name to Geary County in 1869 in honor of John W. Geary, who was Territorial Governor of Kansas from 1856 until March 1857.

The county’s principal community and county seat is Junction City. At the intersection of two trans-American highways, Junction City is a growing economic hub: home to regional and national distribution centers; served by truck, air and railroad transportation. On the western edge of the Flint Hills, it's a true land of opportunity: two industrial parks, one with a rail spur; prime industrial sites on major highways; and a diverse inventory of available building.

In the clear skies, clean air and moderate climate of the Midwest, Junction City is a beautiful and progressive city: within five miles from Kansas' largest reservoir; a short distance to three premier golf courses; home to award-winning schools; peopled by vibrant ethnic and senior communities; and managed by cooperative government agencies with a strong pro-business attitude.

Junction City is a place with room to grow - for your business and your family. It is a small town with big dreams. It is Junction City/Geary County, Kansas.
